Balancing of the body

About Soma

Facia, Force, and Resonance

Every person has fascia and is affected by gravity. Fascia is also called “silver skin” and it is a connective tissue found throughout your body.

Your body is made up of layers; your bones, your muscles, and your skin. Inside and between each layer is this connective tissue, fascia. With the help of fascia, we can utilize a structural component called tensegrity. Tensegrity is achieved by utilizing a closed continuous tension and compression method, meaning all components of the body are linked and the forces are translated instantly and reflected throughout our anatomical system. Without our fascia, we would have little to no structure or ability to function.

It is through gravity that a dysfunction in our system is born and exasperated, causing unbalanced structural habits to be maintained over time. The weight of our structure (our body, it’s muscle, fat, bones, etc.) also adds to the stress of the myofascial connective system. As you increase the load on our tensegrity structure, it begins to tighten and get smaller. This decreases the available range of motion. If one part of the structure is affected it will resonate through the whole structure causing a compounding effect that will impair the body system as a whole.

The more flexible and balanced our network of fascia is the more readily it can absorb shocks. With SOMA Neuromuscular Integration® we can help open up these bound areas and spread flexibility of the fascia in all parts of the body.
